Trade News: Bruins Acquire Daniel Paille

This news just hit my text inbox. The B's have dealt a pair of draft picks (3rd in 2010 and conditional 4th in 2010) to Buffalo for 25 year old forward, Daniel Paille. Paille has 35 goals and 42 assists in 195 career NHL games, all with the Sabres. The 20th overall pick in 2002, Paielle did most of the above damage in the last two seasons and has only played in 2 games this year (i'm not yet sure why) but was a second liner in Buffalo and figures to take Kobasew's slot on the third line in Boston at first glance.

Interestingly enough, bostonbruins.com reports that this is the first trade EVER between the division rivals.

More to come...

Game of the Night

Alright, thanks to the wonders of NHL network (both online and via cable) i'm going to make a concerted effort to introduce a new segment for the stretch run of the regular season.

It's called: Game of the Night. Usually, this won't involve the Bruins. The idea being to get a look at Eastern Conference playoff contenders in games that preferably have implications on the standings right away.

Last night's winner: Sabres (10th seed, 78 points) hosting the Panthers (9th seed, 81 points).

The story: Down 3-1 in the third, the desperate Sabres score two even strength goals followed by a PPG in 2:07 (!) to go up 4-3 and add an empty netter for the win. In doing so, they pull to within 5 points of the crumbling Canadiens and their 8th seed while hurting the other team they need to hurdle. This is the type of loss that could kill the young Panthers, though the fact that they were on the road will likely lessen the blow. Game video highlights can be seen on the Game Center at NHL.com, here.

To watch tonight: Florida (on the road again) in Philly (probably a season determining game for the Panthers)

Also in action: TB in MTL (Can TB push the Habs towards the cliff some more?)

A Trade has happened...It's Montador

Chiarelli provided this update to Bish just a few minutes ago:

"Well, we made one trade that we can’t announce yet, so you’ll get that. It’s, again, it’s a depth trade, that trade, and we’re working on a couple of others right now. I think noon was a big turning point because waivers expired then, and some teams picked up guys and wanted to see if they picked them up or not. So that’s where we are right now, and we’re continuing to be in our War Room, and we’re plugging away here."

Well now it's been announced. I just received a text that the Bruins have acquired Steve Montador, defenseman from Anaheim, in exchange for Petteri Nokalainen. I'll analyze this more later, but on the surface i like the add. Montador has 4G 16A and a +14 in 65 games this year. He's also only 29.

Also, Leopold is heading back to Colorado and the Coyotes have sent Tellqvist to Buffalo for a 4th rounder. (Correction, Leopold was sent FROM the Avs to Calgary)

Calgary has also added Olli Jokinen from Phoenix, who are having a fucking fire sale.

Trade Deadline Day: LunchTime Update

OMGWTFLOLBBQ!!!!!!!

It's trade deadline day!!!

Update: Don Sweeney told bostonbruins.com this morning the following:
"We’ve got something in the cooker that may come down relatively shortly here and obviously we think it’s going to improve our hockey club immediately. Hopefully it goes through; we’re waiting for Pete to give the final word to the other team and we’ll go from there and obviously making a bunch of other inquiries in different situations, see how it goes"

As we wait for the Bruins to do, well, anything...here's what has transpired so far.

The Senators have shipped Antione Vermette down to the Blue Jackets for G Pascal Leclaire, who happens to be hurt and 3-4 weeks away from full health. This is interesting because 1. I don't care about Columbus and 2. This could mean the Sens have a real goalie going forward. Either way, good platoon option for them, and they won't miss Vermette much. Maybe we can ship them back Peter Schaefer...i mean, he sucks too.

The Sabres have signed Tim Connolly to a 2 year extension worth 9 million. I like this for one big reason. He's not fucking worth 4.5 million a season! Way to go, BUF-A-LOW!!!!

Check back later for more updates.
